Cannot ensure safety or assist evacuation of its citizens stranded in Israel: US

Jerusalem: As Iran’s counterattacks intensify, the United States has informed its citizens stranded in Israel that it is unable to assist with evacuation efforts. The US Embassy in Israel said it is not in a position to help Americans depart the country and advised them instead to rely on buses arranged by Israel’s Ministry of Tourism to the Taba border crossing in Egypt, according to a security alert posted on social media.

The embassy stated that the US government cannot guarantee the safety of those who choose to use the bus service. It clarified that the information was being provided solely for those who wish to leave Israel. Travellers intending to board the buses to the Egyptian border have been instructed to register in advance through a form provided by the Tourism Ministry.

Due to the deteriorating security situation in the region, the embassy has directed all US government employees and their family members in Israel to remain at home. The notice said the embassy is currently unable to conduct direct evacuations or provide travel assistance to private citizens.

With very limited options available for departure, and no clarity on when Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport will resume normal operations, those wishing to leave may use the shuttle bus services arranged by Israel’s Tourism Ministry.

The embassy indicated that travel via Jordan is currently unsafe and recommended crossing through the Taba border into Egypt, which operates 24 hours a day. After reaching Taba, travellers may be able to access flights to the United States via Cairo.

As rocket and missile attacks could occur at any time, citizens have been advised to identify the nearest bomb shelters in advance. The embassy also recommended installing mobile applications such as the “Home Front Command Red Alert” app to receive real-time security alerts. It further urged Americans to avoid large gatherings, protest sites, and areas with heavy police presence.
