Mystery 45 bags of human body parts found in a ravine in Mexico: report

Mexico City: Authorities in the western Mexican state of Jalisco on Tuesday discovered 45 bags with human parts in a ravine while searching for seven missing people.

The bodies found in the bag belong to both male and female people, an official statement said on Thursday, news agency AFP reported.

The bags were found at the bottom of a 40-meter (120-foot) ravine in the municipality of Zapopan on the outskirts of industrial hub Guadalajara.

Two women and five men aged around 30 years have been reported to be missing since May 20.

Though their missing was reported separately on different days they were all found to be working at the same call centre.

The body parts were found in the same area where the call centre is. Initial probe suggests foul play by the call centre involving in illegal activities.

Meanwhile local media said that documents of commercial activities, marijuana, and cloth with blood stains were also discovered.

The discovery of body parts is latest of several such incidents including those from makeshift graves reported in recent years from different areas of Jalisco.

In another gruesome episode in 2021, body parts of 11 people were found in 70 bags in the municipality of Tonala, in Jalisco.

In a deserted area of Zapopan, bodies of 29 people were discovered in 119 bags in 2019.

In March 2018 protests erupted in Jalisco over the disappearance of three film students whose bodies were reportedly dissolved in acid.

Despite massive searches in 2018, authorities could not find the three Italians whom the police allegedly handed over to the Jalisco New Generation cartel to which these people sold a faulty machinery.

The Jalisco New Generation cartel is one of the most powerful crime groups in Mexico.

As of the first two months of this year, 33 human remains were found in five makeshift graves in the Guadalajara area.

Since the launch of anti-drug offensive in 2006, Mexico reported more than 340,000 murders and some 100,000 disappearances, according to the report.
