Israeli President Herzog thanks Droupadi Murmu, calls India a ‘true friend’ of Israel

Jerusalem: Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Sunday described India as a “true friend of Israel” while thanking President Droupadi Murmu for her greetings on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

“Thank you, President Droupadi Murmu, for your good wishes. On behalf of the people of Israel, I extend our deepest gratitude. India is a true friend of Israel,” Herzog said in a post on X.

Wishing Murmu and the people of India peace, prosperity, good health and harmony, he said he hoped the deep bond of friendship between the two countries would continue to grow.

Murmu had conveyed her greetings to Herzog and the Jewish community in Israel and across the world on Saturday.

“On behalf of the people of India, I convey heartfelt Rosh Hashanah greetings to you and the Jewish community across Israel and the world. May the new year usher in peace, prosperity, good health and renewed hope for all,” the President’s Secretariat said in a post on X.

Rosh Hashanah, which means “head of the year”, marks the Jewish New Year and is traditionally associated with the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his greetings to his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, the people of Israel and Jewish communities worldwide.

“Shana Tova! Wishing a very happy Rosh Hashanah to Prime Minister Netanyahu, the people of Israel and Jewish communities across the globe. May the new year be filled with peace, hope, good health and continued progress for all,” Modi said in a post on X.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar conveyed his greetings to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, the Israeli government and its people on X.

“On the occasion of Rosh Hashanah, extend warm wishes to Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, the Government and people of Israel. May the New Year bring peace, prosperity, good health and happiness for all. Shana Tova!” Jaishankar said.
