Chicago: A footage that emerged on Thursday showed an Indian student starving on a street in the US city of Chicago, NDTV reported.
The woman, identified as Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi from Hyderabad studying for MS at TRINE University, looked disoriented and disheveled.
Amjed Ullah Khan, a spokesperson of the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), a party based in Telangana, tweeted the footage bringing to light her plight.
The woman seemed to have a few belongings and had trouble remembering her name at first, according to the report.
She said she was undergoing treatment at a hospital but her health worsened after her blood samples were taken for testing.
Her mother Syeda Wahaj Fatima appealed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to bring Zaidi back to India.

Fatima in her letter to minister S Jaishankar said that her daughter was in depression and on the point starvation after her belongings were stolen.
The letter said that Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi hailing from Maula Ali in Telangana, pursuing Masters at TRINE University in Detroit, was often in touch with her mother until the past two months when she developed depression which the mother came to know through two Hyderabad youths.
"But, for the past two months, she has not been in touch with me and recently we came to know through two Hyderabad youths that my daughter is in depression and someone stole her belongings, which left her to starvation. My daughter was spotted on the roads of Chicago in the USA", the letter further said.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago reacted: ‘We have just come to know about the case of Ms. Syed Lulu Minhaj from. Please DM to keep in touch.’
