Gunman opens fire at Water Park in US, children among injured

New York: A gunman opened fire at a children's water park in US state of Michigan on Saturday evening injuring several people including two children, reports say, NDTV reported.

The shooting at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills left "nine, maybe 10" injured and were rushed to hospital, according to police.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard reported that the shooter, hiding inside a nearby home, was found dead.

"We had an active shooter at the splash pad on Auburn in Rochester Hills. That is still an active crime scene and we potentially have the suspect contained nearby, but we asked for the moment people stay away from the area. We have numerous wounded victims. More to follow," the police department reportedly said in a post on X.

The suspect, according to the Oakland County Sheriff, began firing immediately after getting down from his vehicle and reloaded his gun several times as he fired as many as 28 times.

Police termed the attack random as the motive behind it is not yet known.

Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan K. Barnett said that "Rochester Hills Fire Department is on the scene and the scene is secure. We appreciate everyone's patience as we work through this. Prayers are with all those involved. We will share more updates as we have information."

The sheriff said the community is still recovering from shooting at a high school near Rochester Hills in 2021 as this incident has happened.

"We're not even fully comprehending what happened at Oxford, and now we have another complete tragedy that we're dealing with," he was quoted as saying.
