‘I don’t need international law, it is my own morality’: Trump says

New York: US President Donald Trump has shamelessly declared that he has no consideration for international law, instead what constrains him is ‘my own morality’ The Guardian reported.

Days after arresting Nicolás Maduro, the former president of Venezuela, in a nightly raid in the country, Trump told the New York Times that ‘I don’t need international law’.

His outright disregard for international law could put several countries in Latin America in fear and confusion, especially those facing his threat.

Trump told the outlet that his ‘own morality’ and his ‘own mind’ are the only constraints to his power, adding that ‘It’s the only thing that can stop me’.

Sounding benign as an afterthought he said that he was not ‘looking to hurt people’, but went on to add that his compliance with international law ‘depends on what your definition of international law is’.

The interview comes amid reports that his administration is considering ‘a range of options’ to gain control of Greenland.

Stressing the importance of owning Greenland, he dismissed what he said ‘a lease or a treaty’ because ‘Ownership is very important’.

‘Because that’s what I feel is psychologically needed for success. I think that ownership gives you a thing that you can’t do with, you’re talking about a lease or a treaty. Ownership gives you things and elements that you can’t get from just signing a document,’ he added.

He also dismissed concerns that China would potentially take over Taiwan or Russian attempt to control Ukraine, emulating his act of ousting Nicolás Maduro.

Justifying the attack on Venezuela, he alleged that Maduro had sent gang members to the US.
