Islamabad: Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered former prime minister Imran Khan to be moved from Adiala Jail to Islamabad’s Shifa International Hospital for a medical checkup and directed authorities to facilitate weekly meetings with his family, The Indian Express reported.
A three-member bench issued the directions while hearing Khan’s petition seeking hospitalisation. The court also ordered the formation of a medical board, including his personal physician and sister, Dr Uzma Khan.
Khan, 73, has been in Adiala Jail since 2023 while facing convictions and pending cases involving the Al-Qadir Trust and state gifts, alleged disclosure of official secrets and unlawful marriage.
He has previously been taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad for treatment of right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), an eye condition first reported in January.
Although jail officials said his condition and eyesight had improved, the court has now ordered further medical assessment through the board.
