New Delhi: Authorities in UK announced new visa easing for young professionals from India just hours after Prime Minister Sunak met with PM Modi at the 17th edition of the G20 Summit in Bali, Tuesday.
Sunak's greenlight to the UK-India Young Professionals Scheme could mean a lot to India since it offers 3,000 visas for young Indian professionals to work in the UK each year, according to a report India Today.
While describing India as the first visa-national country to benefit the scheme, the UK PM's office confirmed the scheme to offer "3,000 places to 18-30-year-old degree-educated Indian nationals to come to the UK to live and work for up to two years".
PM Modi's office also tweeted to say that both the prime ministers met and talked during the first day of G 20 summit.
"The launch of the scheme is a significant moment both for our bilateral relationship with India and the UK's wider commitment to forging stronger links with the Indo-Pacific region to strengthen both our economies," 10 Downing Street reportedly said in a statement.
10 Downing Street also said that UK has more links with India than any other country in the Indo-Pacific region.
As well as mentioning the large number of India students that make up a quarter of all overseas students in UK, Downing street said Indian investment in the UK supports 95,000 jobs across the nation.
Meanwhile, UK is well on the path to ink a trade deal of worth 24 billion pounds with India—perhaps the first of its kind India to make with any European country—to allow UK to tap into the opportunities in India, according to the report.
