4 die after an 800 seated Bullfight stand collapses in Colombia

Colombia: At least four people including 18 months old died and hundreds injured after a bullfight stand made of wood and bamboo collapsed in Colombia on Sunday.

Footages on social media showed a section of the stand falling into the ring where a bull-running event was happening, according to a report in The Guardian.

The bull however made away causing a panic in the streets of Espinal, Tolima, 145 km south-west of Bogotá.

Authorities reportedly said more than 300 people had gone to local public and private hospitals for treatment.

Ivan Ferney Rojas of the city council said the local hospital had been overrun and asked for help to treat the injured.

Four people were getting treated in intensive care and a couple of others received surgery, according to The Guardian.

Municipal authorities would not immediately confirm what caused the collapse of the stand.

There were about 800 people sitting on the section of stand that gave away, according to the mayor Juan Carlos Tamayo.

In the ensuing confusion of stand falling many were reported to be missing who were later on found and none got trapped in the wreckage as feared.

The bullfight was part of a cultural festival honouring Saints Peter and Paul, who were apostles of Jesus Christ and Christian martyrs, said The Guardian.
