Astana, Kazakhstan: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said that uncivilised methods including an assassination attempt were used against US President-elect during the campaign, News agency Reuters reported.
Calling Trump an intelligent politician, Putin said he did not believe US President-elect was safe in the wake of attempt on his life.
An assassination attempt in July in Pennsylvania left Donald Trump wounded after he was shot in the ear.
In another incident in September, a man was charged with attempted assassination after he was found targeting a riffle at one of Trump's Florida golf courses.
Putin told reporters in Kazakhstan that the US election campaign shocked him, because absolutely uncivilised methods were used against Trump including assassination attempt, adding that ‘in my opinion, he is not safe now’.
Putin hoped that Trump would be cautious, pointing out that ‘in the history of the United States various incidents have happened’.
Putin expressed shock at how political opponents criticized Trump's family and children during the campaign, and termed it ‘revolting’ claiming that not even ‘bandits’ would do so in Russia.
The Russian president said that the Biden administration’s decision to allow Kyiv to attack Russia using Western missiles to escalate war in Ukraine could be a ploy to make Trump’s life more difficult with Russia or something for him to roll back.
Putin said that Moscow is ready for dialogue hoping that Trump would ‘find the solution’ to the situation.
