Influencer moves court against Prithvi Shaw alleging molestation

Mumbai: The social media influencer Sapna Gill moved a Mumbai court seeking directions to register a criminal case against cricketer Prithvi Shaw for alleged assault and outraging of modesty at her. Two months back, there was a public brawl between the two at a club in suburban Andheri, PTI reported.

Gill's lawyer Ali Kasshif Khan said that she filed the complaint before the Andheri magistrate's court against Shaw and his friend Ashish Yadav under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) 509 (word/gesture/act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means).

Gill alleged in the complaint that the cricketer attacked her with a bat, and she attached a copy of a medical certificate with the complaint.

Further, she also lodged a separate complaint against the airport police personnel for not discharging their duties as well as registering an FIR (first information report) under IPC section 354 against Mr Shaw and others on an earlier complaint by her.

The court is expected to hear both complaints by April 17.

In February, after a public brawl, Gill and some others were arrested in case of the alleged attack on Shaw. The brawl reportedly arose over an argument over clicking selfies at a suburban hotel. Gill is out on bail now.

After getting out on bail, Gill lodged a complaint against Shaw, Ashish and others at the Airport police station in Andheri, but the police have not yet registered an FIR.

Gill alleged that Shaw and his friends were having a party and were drunk. When her friend approached Shaw for a selfie, the cricketer reacted in "hostility". To avoid harm to her friend, she intervened, but Shaw touched her inappropriately and pushed her away, she alleged.
