India captain Harmanpreet Kaur became India's highest run-scorer in Women's T20 World Cup history during the team's Group A match against Pakistan in Birmingham on Sunday.
Harmanpreet entered the match level with former captain Mithali Raj on 726 runs. She moved past the milestone with the first run she scored in the innings.
The Indian skipper now has 762 runs in Women's T20 World Cups, surpassing Mithali's tally of 726. Smriti Mandhana is third on the list with 592 runs, followed by Jemimah Rodrigues (408) and Punam Raut (375).
Harmanpreet achieved the feat in 40 matches and 34 innings. She also overtook Australia's Beth Mooney to become the ninth-highest run-scorer in Women's T20 World Cup history.
The milestone came during a crucial innings against Pakistan after India slipped to 18 for 2. Harmanpreet scored 36 off 35 balls, hitting four boundaries, and shared a 91-run partnership with vice-captain Smriti Mandhana for the third wicket.
Mandhana top-scored with 68 off 44 balls, striking nine fours and two sixes. The partnership helped India recover from the early dismissals of Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues.
A late flourish from Richa Ghosh further boosted the scoring as India posted 170 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs in their Women's T20 World Cup opener.
For Pakistan, captain Fatima Sana was the standout bowler with figures of 2 for 33 from four overs. Sadia Iqbal also claimed two wickets, while Rameen Shamim and Tasmia Rubab picked up one wicket each.
