Deviation to be identified and corrected

It was in 1847 that Karl Marx said that political power will precisely become the official manifestation of revenge in a civil society.  Marx shares the hope that the proletariat in the course of its development will be transformed into a group that avoids class antagonisms, and this hope is based on the certainty that this evil tendency of power will not exist in a communist society. However, power corrupts communists like any other group. While Gorbachev cites many reasons why the Communist Party fell from power in the Soviet Union, the most prominent among them  were corruption and violent exercises of power.   The speeches by two Communist stalwarts of Kerala, the Chief Minister's inaugural address at the State Co-Operative Congress and CPM Secretary M.V. Govindan's speech at Meppadi, Wayanad pointed to the fact that the left parties which is successively in power in Kerala is being influenced by greed and totalitarian tendencies. The Chief Minister's Kerala Cooperative Congress inaugural address and CPM Secretary MV Govindan's speech at Wayanad Meppadi shed light on the fact that the left party which retained power in Kerala for the second time in a row is being well influenced by greed and authoritarian tendencies.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that at a time when cooperatives are tainted by corruption, many people in the society are very greedy and it is the human greed that leads to corruption. He clarified that irregularities will not happen without the knowledge of officials, who feel what they have is not enough and they need more income.   There cannot be a more correct statement about the cause of corruption. The fight against this greed will be successful only when we add that not only bureaucrats but political leaders also find corruption as an easy way to earn money. The persistent failure to take allegations of corruption seriously and to ensure transparent investigations against the perpetrators has left people distrustful of the government. Who doesn't know that officials are running the business of corruption unscathed under the shield prepared by the wealth-seeking political leadership?  Kerala is also a state where government officials are set targets to collect money to conduct each conference. People's representatives and party leaders threaten to transfer those who are not willing to comply. The Left cannot recover its lost image without mercilessly putting to trial leaders who harbour corruption and nepotism. Undoubtedly, the left government that came to power for the second time is mired in allegations of corruption and totalitarian tendencies, including in the cooperative sector.

During the second term in power, some unhealthy trends have started sprouting.  MV Govindan's urging to act with good political sense to avoid being affected by capitalist-feudal decadence, just like the words of the Chief Minister, can be understood to be from the realization that distrust in the party and the administration is getting stronger day by day.  It can be believed that this realization has led to a change in the party's character only if it is willing to undergo drastic reforms, from vendetta clashes on campuses to handouts from businesses. Only if the injustices being done by the police and the arrogance of the ministers are curbed will one be convinced that the administration has changed. The party and the leadership need to be able to absorb also the criticism about the high-handed tendencies and the need to inspire corrective measures levelled by MT Vasudevan Nair recently which was echoed by various cultural figures.  If the opposing views of the writers are dismissed without realizing that they represent the anger of the people, the future world may retaliate as thunderclaps. It would be appropriate to learn the lesson from Bengal now that even a decade will not be enough to repair the damage caused by the impact on the people.
