Similarly, doctors at Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi have recorded a notable increase in patients with these respiratory conditions.
Healthcare experts attribute this escalation to various factors, including sudden weather fluctuations and the dusty, hot environment prevalent in the region. These conditions contribute to respiratory infections and exacerbate existing respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
The unpredictable weather patterns, characteristic of the region, play a significant role in the rise of respiratory infections like acute bronchitis. Along with this, environmental factors worsen the condition of patients with asthma and COPD, leading to exacerbations.
Factors such as increased travel for Umrah, spring vacations and huge gatherings during Ramadan are also believed to contribute to the surge in respiratory infections. Additionally, healthcare authorities have highlighted the importance of influenza vaccination in mitigating the spread of respiratory illnesses.
