The Sharjah Debt Relief Committee has cleared over Dh1.15 billion in citizens' debt, as announced by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, during the inauguration of the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF) on September 4.
In his opening speech, the Ruler emphasized the importance of flexibility in governance and direct communication with citizens, highlighting how these principles led to the creation of the Debt Relief Committee. He explained that while existing channels for communication were insufficient, the 'Direct Line' TV and radio program helped establish a connection with citizens.
However, due to the limitations of discussing sensitive topics publicly, a new communication platform called 'Mubara' was introduced, enabling the government to identify cases of need and ultimately form the Debt Relief Committee.
The IGCF opening also featured a film illustrating how flexible communication between governments and citizens can enhance development and quality of life. This year's forum includes over 160 activities, such as sessions, speeches, capacity-building workshops, youth forums and platforms for showcasing research in communication sciences, with support from more than 40 local, regional and international partners.
