Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, said Emirati women are the heartbeat of society and a cornerstone of the UAE’s sustainable development.
In remarks carried by state news agency WAM, she described Emirati Women’s Day, observed on August 28, as a tribute to women whose perseverance has shaped the country’s success over the past five decades.
She said women’s empowerment strengthens family life, drives social cohesion and contributes to building a competitive nation. She also called for combined efforts from government, the private sector and communities to reinforce the family’s role in society.
Sheikha Fatima highlighted the National Policy for Empowerment of Emirati Women 2023–2031, which aims to expand women’s participation across all fields. She said the policy provides a structured framework for long-term advancement.
This year’s celebration carries the theme “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years”. It coincides with the golden jubilee of the General Women’s Union (GWU), founded in 1975.
Since its establishment, the GWU has served as a driving force for women’s rights, development and leadership. This year’s theme honours their achievements and stresses the importance of community partnership in shaping the nation’s future.
