Digital Dubai, in coordination with the Al Ameen Service, has launched a public awareness campaign urging residents to verify content before sharing images and videos generated using artificial intelligence.
The campaign includes a video highlighting how advanced tools can produce realistic footage placing individuals in conflict zones, disaster scenes or other fabricated situations, even though the events never occurred.
Authorities warned that during periods of crisis or heightened tension, such content can circulate widely across social media platforms. They noted that users unfamiliar with the technology may struggle to distinguish manipulated material from authentic footage.
The initiative emphasises that artificial intelligence remains a valuable tool across sectors, contributing to innovation and productivity. However, officials cautioned that it is also being misused by some to spread misinformation and create false narratives.
Residents were encouraged to rely on official sources for information and to exercise caution before forwarding unverified content online.
