The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced plans to build five new bridges over the Trade Centre Roundabout to enhance traffic flow across the city. Spanning a total length of over 5,000 metres, these bridges will connect Sheikh Zayed Road with five key streets: Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street and Al Mustaqbal Street.
The current roundabout, one of Dubai’s major intersections, will be transformed into a surface-level intersection to improve traffic flow. The upgrade will facilitate smoother movement from Sheikh Zayed Road to 2nd December Street and from Al Mustaqbal Street southbound towards Sheikh Zayed Road.
Valued at Dh696.414 million, the project aims to double the capacity of the intersection, significantly cutting the average delay time from 12 minutes to just 90 seconds. Travel time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street will also be reduced, dropping from six minutes to one minute.
In addition to easing movement between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, the project will enable free-flowing traffic from 2nd December Street (serving Jumeirah and Al Satwa) towards Al Majles Street, which links to Al Mustaqbal Street and provides access to the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). Smooth traffic flow will also be ensured from Sheikh Rashid Street towards Deira and on the upper-level bridge connecting Sheikh Zayed Road with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street.
