Dubai releases SARAAB, open-source AI to detect deepfake videos

An open-source model developed in Dubai will help identify deepfake videos and allow technology specialists worldwide to test and improve its capabilities.

The Dubai Electronic Security Centre launched SARAAB alongside two other cybersecurity initiatives at GISEC Global 2026.

Developed entirely by an Emirati team at DESC, SARAAB is the first model of its kind created by a government entity in the Arab region.

It will be made available through developer platforms, giving AI engineers, cybersecurity specialists and researchers access to test and further develop the technology.

DESC also introduced the Dubai Cyber Skills Framework, a common reference covering cybersecurity qualifications, professional certifications, training and career progression.

The framework is intended for cybersecurity professionals, employers, academic institutions and training providers.

The third initiative is the ISR Auditor Certification Programme, which will train auditors and information security professionals to evaluate compliance with Dubai’s Information Security Regulation using consistent standards and methods.

Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, Chief Executive of DESC, said the three initiatives were intended to develop Dubai’s cybersecurity capabilities and solutions.

“The initiatives we are launching today embody this approach and reflect our ambition to develop solutions and expertise that originate in Dubai and create an impact beyond its borders”, he said.

The initiatives are being presented at DESC’s stand at GISEC Global 2026, which runs from September 16 to 18 at Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City Dubai.
