The Traffic Safety Technical Committee, guided by the Joint Traffic Safety Committee and led by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), has introduced the Work Accelerators plan to enhance traffic safety in Abu Dhabi. This initiative involves collaboration among the Abu Dhabi Mobility, the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi.
The Work Accelerators plan focuses on developing and implementing interactive strategies among various government entities to address traffic safety challenges quickly. It aims to integrate national governmental and private efforts to provide immediate solutions, set implementation timeframes, and evaluate outcomes.
The initiative targets six key areas: analyzing traffic accidents, enhancing pedestrian and micro-mobility safety, ensuring delivery drivers' safety, improving freight transport safety, addressing driver behaviour and reviewing road speed limits. The plan is divided into three stages: Design, Acceleration and Delivery.
Abdulrahman Al Shizawi, Head of the Traffic Safety Technical Committee, emphasized the formation of Accelerator Teams to create urgent plans that bypass routine procedures, aiming to reduce traffic accidents and their negative impacts. The committee focuses on modern methods to ensure safe mobility and improve educational programs promoting safe driving practices.
