‘A Day Without Accidents’: UAE urges safe driving on school reopening day

As schools reopen today, August 25, 2025 is being observed as “A Day Without Accidents.” The Ministry of Interior has declared the initiative in coordination with police departments across the Emirates.

The campaign coincides with the return of students to schools after the summer break, a day that typically sees a surge in traffic. The initiative aims to promote safer driving practices and reduce accidents on the country’s busiest back-to-school day.

To encourage motorists, the MOI has introduced an incentive scheme. Drivers who submit an online pledge via the ministry’s official website and record no violations today will have four black points deducted from their licences automatically by September 15. The process is electronic and requires no visit to service centres.

Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, said the initiative is designed to ensure safety on school reopening day and to raise awareness about recurring violations that endanger lives.

Authorities have urged motorists to strictly follow traffic rules, including wearing seatbelts, adhering to speed limits, maintaining safe distances, avoiding mobile phone distractions and giving way to emergency vehicles and official convoys.
