The UAE will hold Emirati Women’s Day activities throughout an entire month for the first time, President Sheikh Mohamed has announced.
Observed annually on August 28, Emirati Women’s Day recognises the contributions and achievements of women across the country.
This year’s program will carry the theme “We Emerge Stronger and Better”. Events and initiatives planned during the month will present Emirati role models and recognise women’s work in the UAE’s development.
President Sheikh Mohamed said Emirati women had been central to the country’s progress and remained a source of national strength.
"On Emirati Women's Day, we come together to celebrate the values and achievements of all Emirati women, who represent the pride of our nation and its unwavering resilience", Sheikh Mohamed said on X.
"For the first time, these celebrations will extend to a full month this year in reflection of our gratitude for their outstanding contributions to the UAE’s continued development. Through their determination and inspiring vision for the future, Emirati women will forever remain a source of our collective strength and advancement".
Sheikh Mohammed pays tribute to his mother
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, marked the occasion by sharing a personal tribute to his mother, Sheikha Latifa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan.
"On this day, I remember my mother, Sheikha Latifa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on her", Sheikh Mohammed said.
"I remember her compassion and mercy ... and I remember her stances alongside Sheikh Rashid over 40 years ... and I remember her closeness to the poor and her care and support for women".
Sheikh Mohammed also described women as partners in building the UAE.
Emirati women carry national stories to the world
Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed, chairwoman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, said Emirati women were creating stories that combined the country’s heritage with imagination and brought the UAE’s voice to international audiences.
According to state news agency Wam, she said Emirati Women’s Day provided an opportunity to recognise women’s achievements and the foundations that had helped successive generations pursue education, participate in national life and take leadership roles.
The month-long program will continue the annual celebration’s focus on the experiences, work and influence of Emirati women in different areas of society.
