JEDDAH: The Prophet's Mosque in Madinah has installed 250 electric umbrellas which cover the courtyard of the mosque to help cool down worshippers during the blazing summer heat.
Electric umbrellas that are mounted on concrete pillars will allow 500,000 visitors to comfortably worship in the mosque, preventing direct contact with sunlight and controlling down the temperature.
Fans that cool the surface by blowing air mixed with cold water using a precisely automated system will help in absorbing thermal energy, thereby lowering the extreme temperatures, Arab News reported.
Floors that are laid with marbles will also assist in moderating the temperature by preventing heat absorption.
