Ayman bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, director general of the environment, water, and agriculture branch in Madinah, has inaugurated the "2024 National Planting Season" as part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. The program, aligned with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture’s "We Plant for Our Future" campaign, is a key component of the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to foster sustainable environmental development and boost vegetation growth.
The regional planting campaign in Madinah will involve 36 volunteer-driven programs and over 1,800 male and female participants, highlighting community engagement in environmental efforts. The initiative plans to plant 50,000 water-efficient seedlings, including mesquite, thorn jujube and sweet acacia trees, along with 20 other wild plant species. This selection focuses on environmentally sustainable plants that require minimal water, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s goal of preserving resources while enhancing green spaces.
The first phase of the campaign will target educational institutions, Prince Sultan Military Medical City, and facilities under the Saudi Authority for Industrial and Technology Zones (Modon). By integrating green practices into these areas, the program aims to raise environmental awareness and expand green spaces within urban and educational zones.
With a focus on streamlining planting processes and fostering a culture of vegetation preservation, the initiative seeks to involve the community actively in environmental protection, encouraging a more sustainable and greener Saudi Arabia.
