The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia launched the second edition of the "Common Ground" festival on Wednesday, showcasing the deep cultural and historical ties between Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Organized by the Ministry of Culture, the festival celebrates the rich traditions of both nations through art, music and folklore.
Running until December 31, the event is taking place at Mega Studio in Riyadh's Boulevard City. Residents have been invited to "explore and celebrate Iraqi culture and the historical and cultural bonds between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Iraq through art, music, storytelling and more," according to the ministry.
A significant highlight of the festival is a tribute to the late writer Kareem Al-Iraqi, renowned for his novels, plays, songs, and screenplays. His contributions to art and literature are celebrated through dedicated activities and displays.
The festival opened with a performance by iconic Iraqi singer-songwriter Kadim Al-Sahir, enchanting the audience with his timeless music. Thursday's schedule includes seminars led by experts in heritage, exploring the shared cultural legacies of the two nations.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to view over 100 works of art created by both Iraqi and Saudi artists, showcasing the vibrant creativity of the region.
In a parallel event in AlUla on Wednesday, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman hosted Iraqi Prime Minister Shia Al-Sudani for discussions focused on regional developments. The meeting underscored the growing collaboration between the two nations as they continue to strengthen their cultural and political ties.
The "Common Ground" festival serves as a testament to the enduring bond between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, bringing people together to celebrate shared traditions and values.
