Cloud seeding shows promising results for Makkah, Holy sites: Study

The Regional Program for Cloud Seeding has revealed promising results in enhancing rainfall and increasing cumulus cloud density in Makkah and the Holy Sites, according to a recent research study conducted in Saudi Arabia.

The Kingdom’s National Center of Meteorology (NCM) shared these findings on X, highlighting the study's exploration of weather conditions in Taif Governorate to identify potential areas for improvement in weather modification efforts.

The research team plans to present their findings at the upcoming international rainmakers conference, showcasing Saudi Arabia’s advancements in cloud seeding technology. Additionally, the program is set to conduct practical experiments to finalize the remaining research elements, with the intention of sharing the results with relevant stakeholders.

In recent days, Makkah has experienced heavy rainfall, creating significant challenges for pilgrims visiting the Grand Mosque. Due to the hazardous weather conditions, authorities have advised residents and visitors to stay indoors during storms, and those outside should seek shelter under shade or secure areas if the rain intensifies.

On Saturday, August 31, the NCM issued a “yellow” warning, forecasting heavy rains and thunderstorms for the city of Makkah.
