At the 162nd Ministerial Meeting of the Arab League Council in Cairo, foreign ministers urged the global community to enforce the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) advisory opinion declaring Israel's settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem illegal. The ministers called for Israel to cease all settlement activities and end its illegal presence in these territories, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
The ministers pressed the UN General Assembly and Security Council to take further action to end Israel’s occupation. They also called on the ICJ to expedite its judgment on South Africa’s case against Israel, which accuses Israel of violating the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
The Arab League ministers condemned Israel’s expulsion of Palestinians, calling it a grave breach of international humanitarian law and a declaration of war against Arab nations, which threatens peace efforts and exacerbates regional conflict.
Additionally, the ministers urged the UN to suspend Israel from participating in the General Assembly, citing Israel’s non-compliance with the UN Charter and its threat to international peace and security.
The Arab League also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for refusing to withdraw from the Philadelphi corridor, which they said obstructs efforts for a ceasefire and prisoner exchanges.
