Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has accepted the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister Imad Mohammad Al-Atiqi, as reported by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). The resignation comes amid notable political changes within the oil-rich Gulf state.
Following Al-Atiqi's departure, who had served as the Oil Minister since January 17 under the administration of former Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, the Emir appointed Nora Al-Fassam as the acting Oil Minister.
Al-Fassam, who currently also holds the positions of Finance Minister and Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs, assumed her new role on Sunday. She was appointed to her previous roles in the government led by incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, which was established on May 12.
The leadership change in the oil ministry occurs as Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah continues to consolidate his role as the Emir of Kuwait, which he officially assumed last December after taking an oath before the Kuwaiti National Assembly. He succeeded the late Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away on December 16 at the age of 86.
Sheikh Mishal is the 17th ruler of Kuwait, navigating the future of this strategically crucial nation.
