Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala continues to face intense summer heat, with high temperature alerts issued for 12 districts, excluding Idukki and Wayanad, as rising mercury levels strain normal life across the state and increase health concerns.
Palakkad recorded 39 degrees Celsius, with similar highs expected to continue in the coming days. Kollam may also touch 39 degrees, while Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Thrissur and Kozhikode are likely to see around 38 degrees. Temperatures in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod are expected to reach 37 degrees, and Thiruvananthapuram could record up to 36 degrees, indicating widespread and persistent heat conditions across regions.
The continued rise in temperature has heightened concerns over heat-related illnesses and disruption to daily routines. Although some areas reported early morning showers, the relief has been brief and insufficient to offset the overall heat stress. Most districts remain under warning, with no significant cooling trend yet visible.
A slight change in weather is expected in the coming days, with isolated rainfall forecast across parts of the state for three days starting tomorrow. Rain is likely in Pathanamthitta and Idukki initially, followed by Kannur and Kasaragod on April 30, and Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Wayanad on May 1.
However, this rainfall is expected to be scattered and limited, offering only temporary relief. The combination of high temperatures and intermittent rain may further increase humidity levels, adding to discomfort.
With no immediate drop in temperatures expected, Kerala remains under prolonged heat stress as authorities continue close monitoring.
