Kollam: Kerala High Court lawyer and former senior government pleader P G Manu was discovered dead on Sunday morning at a rented residence in Anandavaleeswaram, Kollam, where he had been staying for professional reasons.
Police have indicated that the preliminary investigation points to suicide, though the exact cause remains unclear.
Manu, originally from Piravom in Ernakulam district, was recently granted bail by the Supreme Court in a case where he was accused of raping a woman who had sought his legal assistance.
On Sunday morning, junior lawyers visited the residence of advocate P G Manu after repeated phone calls went unanswered. Upon arrival, they discovered him hanging, according to police sources.
Reports suggest that Manu was under severe mental distress following the circulation of a video showing him and his family apologising to another woman over an alleged harassment incident. Police have initiated inquest procedures, and the investigation is ongoing.
In a similar case last year, Manu was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female client. Following the filing of the case, he resigned from his position as senior government pleader on November 30, 2024. Manu had previously served as counsel for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Kerala.
