No churidar at Padmanabhaswamy Temple: HC

Kochi: The Kerala High Court Thursday rejected the new dress code at the Padmanabhaswamy Temple that allowed women to wear churidar to enter the famed shrine.

The Division Bench’s order came while considering a plea challenging the chief executive officer’s new order on the dress code at the temple.

The Kerala High Court had earlier disposed of a petition seeking permission to allow women to wear salwars and churidars inside the temple.

It was the last month the executive officer of the temple had issued an order allowing women wearing churidar to enter the temple.

The Administrative Committee, however, had voiced opposition to allowing women to wear churidar, saying it was against customs and age old traditions of the shrine.

Various Hindu organisations had protested in front of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple against the decision to relax the dress code for women.
