The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) secretary Jay Shah declared that the IPL 2024 season will take place entirely in India.
His statement comes in the wake of rumours that the second half of the next IPL season will be played abroad due to the Lok Sabha elections as the election dates were released on Saturday.
A report published by Cricbuzz has stated that the tournament will not be moved overseas. BCCI secretary was quoted in the report saying, “No, it won’t be moved overseas”.
A few IPL franchises have collected their players' passports as a precautionary measure in case the second phase of the IPL is shifted out of India due to general elections.
The general elections dates weer annouced to be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1 by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar at a press conference on Saturday, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.
In the meantime, the BCCI had only disclosed the schedule for the first 21 matches of the IPL 2024 season, which runs from March 22 to April 7. After the Election Commission's announcement, more information regarding the second phase of the lucrative league could now be released. The first match of the IPL 2024 season will take place on March 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Bengaluru, between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
