Port of Spain: Iconic star batter of Australia, the veteran opener David Warner, said that the country might not need him for the 2015 Champions Trophy. Though he announced retirement from longer formats of the game, he hints at being hopeful of being included in the next major ICC, the Champions Trophy, event in the role of opening batter, Asian News International reported.
Warner, however, claimed that Aussies will exhibit "fearless" cricket during the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, creating a unique piece of history.
Australia, led by pacer Pat Cummins, has won the World Test Championship and one-day World Cup in the previous 12 months. It is now aiming for the T20I World Cup. The tournament is going to happen in the West Indies and the United States next month.
If Australia wins, Warner, as well as Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Travis Head, become the only four players to win the three International Cricket Council trophies at the same time.
"Being part of that potential history, you only sit back and reflect on those things when you're completely done and dusted," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted him.
He said that when in an ICC interview, he was asked about "it and all the tournaments", he couldn't remember them all, "but it's been great".
He is expecting to be included in the Champions Trophy squad, but he believes that Australia might not need him.
Warner could not complete the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with his team, Delhi Capitals' campaign, due to an injury in his left hand.
