Egypt court sentences Morsi to life imprisonment

Cairo: An Egyptian court on Tuesday sentenced former president Mohamed Morsi to life in prison on charges of spying for Palestinian group Hamas, Lebanese group Hezbollah, and Iran.

Morsi and his fellow defendants, including top Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie, were convicted for killing and kidnapping policemen, attacking police facilities and breaking out of jail during the uprising against then president Hosni Mubarak, Al Jazeera reported.

The court is also seeking capital punishment in a separate case for Brotherhood leader Khairat el-Shater and 15 others for conspiring with foreign groups Hamas and Hezbollah against Egypt.
