Pakistan man died of dengue, Hepatitis, not Ebola

Islamabad: A patient suspected to be suffering from Ebola virus disease (EVD) died of dengue and hepatitis C, media reported.

Zulfiqar Ahmad, 40, a resident of Chiniot district in Punjab province, returned to Pakistan from the sub-Saharan nation of Togo Nov 16.

He was admitted to Faisalabad's Allied Hospital Saturday with high fever and bleeding from his nose and mouth. The symptoms prompted suspicions that the patient might have contracted the deadly Ebola virus.

He actually died of dengue and Hepatitis C, Dawn online reported citing a statement issued by the National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSRC).

A doctor at the Allied Hospital earlier said that the patient’s blood samples were sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad for tests fearing Ebola.
