No blankets for Modi critics: ex-BJP MP on camera takes back blankets given to Muslim women

A purported video of former BJP MP Sukhbir Singh has ignited online fury, allegedly capturing him refusing blankets to Muslim women at a welfare event after inquiring their names and claiming the aid isn't for those who "abuse PM Modi."

In the clip from what appears to be a public blanket distribution, Singh hands out items to women but asks some their names. Upon hearing Muslim names, he reportedly instructs them to return the blankets, stating they aren't for Modi critics. Party workers then allegedly segregate the women, seating them apart.

As Singh leaves in his vehicle, a man confronts him, questioning the discrimination in a democracy and asking, “Govt se ho kya?” (Are you from the government?).

The video exploded across platforms, sparking outrage. One user posted: “Once you step into public life, especially as an elected representative, you carry a constitutional responsibility to treat citizens equally.” Another quipped: “If that same logic had been applied earlier, BJP voters would have had no place to study, no hospitals for treatment, and no jobs.”

Even some BJP backers disapproved: “As a staunch BJP follower, I condemn this act and want an apology.”

The footage has fueled debates on welfare discrimination and leaders' conduct. No official response from Singh or the BJP as of filing.
