Unsafe oil, pungent smell found at KFC outlet in Hyderabad; improvement notice issued

Hyderabad: A food safety inspection at a KFC outlet in Nizampet on Saturday uncovered several violations, including the use of unsafe cooking oil, a strong pungent odour in the kitchen and raw chicken stored without proper labelling, officials said.

Inspectors also found inadequate preparation records and improper labelling of food items, lack of segregation between vegetarian and non-vegetarian stocks, and substandard housekeeping in the marination and frying areas. Temperature monitoring records for chillers and freezers were not available.

Positively, food handlers were observed wearing hairnets, gloves and aprons, and no pest infestation was detected. Records for medical fitness, pest control and water testing were also on hand.

Cyberabad Municipal Corporation has issued an improvement notice and directed the outlet to strengthen food storage, labelling, segregation, oil monitoring and record-keeping practices.
