J&K: A terrorist has been shot and killed by security forces in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir after an encounter took place in the early hours of Saturday morning, Kashmir Zone Police announced in a statement.
2 Army jawans were killed in the encounter. The identity of the slain terrorist is still under investigation and more details are awaited.
After receiving a tip off about the presence of militants in Chermarg, Zainapora area, security forces launched the anti-terror operation and were fired upon by the militants who were in hiding. The terrorist was killed in the exchange of fire between the two parties.
Earlier this week, 10 alleged Jaish-e-Muhammad overground workers were arrested by State Investigation Agency from multiple locations in Kashmir. The arrested 'over-ground workers' were allegedly part of Jaish modules involved in recruitment and providing logistical support to terrorists.
The NIA meanwhile also conducted separate raids at multiple locations on terror suspects in Kashmir and seized incriminating material and electronic devices from them.
Four terrorist associates of proscribed terror outfit The Resistance Front were arrested this week, accused of involvement in providing logistic and other support to active terrorists in Kashmir Valley, were arrested from Srinagar.
Police said on the basis of reliable intelligence input, it was found that terrorist organisation, The Resistance Front (TRF) is active in J&K and is being orchestrated by handlers based in Pakistan.
"Two active terrorists, Basit Ahmed Dar of Redwani, Kulgam, and Momin Gulzar of Eidgah, Srinagar, are using the network of overground workers in the Valley for subversive activities. These terrorist associates are providing logistic support and are harbouring these terrorist in Kashmir Valley," a police official told TimesNow earlier this week.
A case was registered by the police and investigation initiated, and during its course, four terrorist associates were arrested.
"IGP Kashmir (Vijay Kumar) once again reiterates his appeal to all misguided youth who have joined terror folds to shun the path of violence & return to mainstream. He also said that Police is committed to accept them with open arms as society needs them the most especially their parents," said a statement posted by the Kashmir Zone Police on their official Twitter account on Saturday.
