Taj Mahal reopened after bomb scare turns out to be hoax

Agra: The Taj Mahal in Agra was shut and tourists evacuated his morning after Uttar Pradesh Police received a call about a bomb at the iconic monument, NDTV reported. The monument is now reopened after the investigation revealed that it was a hoax call.

The call was made to the police helpline.

Over 1,000 tourists at the Taj Mahal were asked to vacate the premises on Thursday after authorities received a bomb threat which later proved to be a hoax call. No explosive was found, ADG Agra Zone Rajeev Krishna said.

We have received information from the control room that a man called them up saying that a bomb is kept at the Taj Mahal which will explode soon. The security check is being done around Taj Mahal," Shiv Ram Yadav, SP (Protocol) Agra said, adding that the man also said that the unidentified man claimed that he was discriminated in military recruitment.

The CISF has been alerted, Agra SP said.

The Taj was reopened for tourists last September with strict coronavirus safety guidelines after being shut for tourists for over six months. It has been closed since March 17 due to the pandemic.
