Student gives birth while writing class 10 board exam in Madhya Pradesh

Pithampur: In a shocking and distressing incident, a minor Class 10 student delivered a baby in the washroom of an examination centre while taking her board exams in Pithampur, an industrial area in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district.

The incident took place on Tuesday within the Sector-1 police station limits at a private school serving as a centre for Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education examinations. The girl, appearing for her mathematics paper, suddenly complained of severe abdominal pain midway through the test.

With the invigilator’s permission, she went to the restroom, where she unexpectedly went into labour and gave birth to a baby boy. Concerned after several minutes of her absence and hearing the infant’s cries, invigilators and staff approached the locked toilet door.

The examination centre management immediately alerted the 108 emergency ambulance service. The student and her newborn were rushed to the Community Health Centre in Pithampur, where doctors confirmed both mother and child are stable and in good health, currently under observation. The girl arrived at the facility around 5 p.m., and medical staff described their condition as normal.

The incident caused panic among students and staff at the centre. Police registered a Zero FIR at Pithampur police station, which was later transferred to Betma police jurisdiction in Indore district, as the girl is a resident of Betma and had come to Pithampur only to appear for her exams.

Vijay Dabur, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Dhar, confirmed the case, saying the student was appearing for her exams on Tuesday. During interrogation, the minor revealed that she had been in contact with a young man for the past two years. The accused has been identified, and police said efforts are underway to apprehend him.

Legal proceedings will follow under relevant provisions, including those protecting minors, with a thorough investigation being conducted into all aspects of the case.
