Stone-pelting on religious procession; 46 arrested in Rajasthan

Karauli: Forty-six people were arrested, and seven others were detained by the Rajasthan Police on Monday regarding a stone-throwing incident. The stone-throwing happened on Saturday at a religious procession in Karauli, Asian News International reported.

The Bharatpur Range Police Inspector General (IG), Prasanna Kumar Khamesra, said that the stone-pelting happened in the Futa Kot area of Main Bazaar of Karauli, and after that, police acted accordingly, making arrests.

The IG said that the police had arrested 13 accused in connection with the incident, a case has been registered at the Police Station Karauli. Thirty-three others were arrested for violating the curfew, and the detained seven are meant for questioning, IG said.

The IG further said that, given the sensitivity of the incident, he reached the spot immediately and took stock of the situation. Superintendent of Police Karauli, Shailendra Singh Indoliya, was with him, and they called necessary police troops along with Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) from other districts of the range in order to keep peace and order.

Police Headquarters has sent ADG Sanjib Kumar, IG Bharat Lal Meena, DIG (Crime branch) Jaipur Rahul Prakash, DCP Mridul Kachawa, and DCP Jaipur Narayan Togas to Karauli to closely supervise the situation. The police have conducted a flag march in the city, and it is keeping the town under close watch, the IG said.

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) was imposed in the Karauli district on Saturday, and the internet was shut down.

The stone-pelting was done against a 'Shobha Yatra' procession on Saturday.
