New Delhi: National capital registers at least six rape and seven molestation cases on daily basis, a police crime report has shown the increasing number of crimes against women.

The Delhi police released report also showed the registration of over 1,100 rape cases in the last six months. The police attributed the rise in the registration to women-friendly helplines and booths, which the police have introduced as a measure to curb the crimes against women.

There is a reported 6 per cent rise in the number of rape cases and a 17 per cent increase in molestation cases so far this year. At least 1,480 molestation and assault cases have been registered from January to July 15 as against the 1,244 cases last year.

There has also been a significant increase in kidnapping and abduction of women cases this year. 2,197 kidnapping cases have been registered between January and July 15, a 20 per cent increase when compared to last year.

The crime report also revealed the increase in kidnapping cases where 2,197 women abduction cases have been registered between January and July 15, marking 20 per cent more kidnapping cases as compared to the corresponding period last year.

Police officials say the accused in most cases are known to the victim and the crime takes place at or near her residence.

Cases of domestic violence following the pandemic have also risen to register more than 2,704 crimes this year against 2,096 cases last year.
