Woman raped and robbed at knifepoint on train in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly raped and robbed at knifepoint on a passenger train between Guntur and Peddakurapadu railway stations in Andhra Pradesh, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on October 13 when the woman, a resident of Rajamahendravaram, boarded the Santragachi Special Express to travel to Charlapally in Hyderabad. She was travelling alone in the ladies coach at the time.

According to her complaint, when the train stopped at Guntur Railway Station, an unidentified man, believed to be around 40 years old, approached the coach and tried to open the door. Although the woman told him it was a ladies compartment and attempted to lock it, he persuaded her to open the door, entered the coach, and secured it from inside.

As the train moved between Guntur and Peddakurapadu, the man allegedly threatened her with a knife, sexually assaulted her, and beat her before robbing her of Rs 5,600 in cash and her mobile phone.

The accused reportedly jumped off the train near Peddakurapadu Railway Station and fled. The woman continued her journey to Charlapally, where she lodged a complaint with the Secunderabad Government Railway Police.

The GRP registered a ‘Zero FIR’, which can be filed regardless of the location of the crime, and forwarded it to the Nadikudi Police Station in Andhra Pradesh for further investigation.
