56-year-old tailor arrested for sexual assault of minor in Delhi market

A 56-year-old tailor has been arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl at a market in Central Delhi, police said.

According to police, the incident took place around 11 pm on September 16. The girl had stepped out of her home to buy stationery items when the accused lured her into his shop.

“We received a PCR call regarding the sexual assault of a minor victim by a shopkeeper. She had stepped out of her home around 11 pm to purchase some stationery items when the tailor lured her in,” a police officer said.

Police alleged that the accused took the girl inside the shop, tied her hands and legs, and sexually assaulted her. The girl later returned home and informed her parents about the incident.

An FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Women’s Police Station in North District.

The accused was arrested and sent to judicial custody on the same day, police said.

The incident comes days after a teenage girl was gang-raped and stabbed to death in Outer North Delhi. Her friend and three others were apprehended in that case, with three of the accused being under 18.
