Former captain of the Indian women's cricket team, Mithali Raj's biopic 'Shabaash Mithu' will soon hit screens. The trailer starring Taapsee Pannu in the lead role has dropped and is already winning hearts.
The trailer shows Mithali's journey from a girl dreaming of playing cricket and becoming an icon who wore blue for 23 years. The 2.45-minute video shows not only the cricket's struggle but the Indian women's team's struggle to get respect.
In the first part of the trailer, Taapsee is seen getting underestimated and bullied by everyone. However, her coach played by Vijay Raaz sees potential in her. The video shows Mitali standing up not only for herself but for the team's identity.
Mithali Raj has made over 10,000 runs in ODI and broke several records. She recently retired from all forms of international cricket. Mithali had said she hopes this movie will inspire more people, especially young girls to take up sports as a career.
The lead character is seen saying she was eight years old when someone showed her the dream of women in blue. "Cricket won't just be a gentleman's game. We will have our team and an identity".
The sports drama is directed by Srijit Mukherji and produced by Viacom 18 Studios.
The film is set to release on 15 July 2022.
