Rohtash Chaudhary rewrites history with 847 push-ups, sets Guinness World Record

Rohtash Chaudhary, known as the “Push-up Man of India,” has turned a life of struggle into a record-breaking achievement by completing 847 push-ups in one hour while carrying a 27.21 kg backpack, earning a Guinness World Record. The feat, performed at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, also marked a powerful comeback for the 41-year-old fitness enthusiast who was once bedridden for nearly two years after a major accident.

Chaudhary’s record attempt drew a modest but enthusiastic crowd, while Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya witnessed the performance and later handed over the official Guinness World Records certificate. The previous record had been set by Syria’s Sami Jomah Hassan in 2023, which Chaudhary surpassed with his disciplined and demanding effort.

Speaking after the achievement, Chaudhary said records are not simply meant to be broken, but to show that human potential has no limits. He said consistency, belief and discipline were the key forces behind his success.

To prepare for the attempt, Chaudhary followed a strict routine that included weighted push-up training every morning, a high-protein diet and mental conditioning. Guinness said his journey became even more remarkable because he had spent nearly two years unable to move his body after the accident, before beginning rehabilitation and later pursuing record-breaking goals.

Guinness also noted that this year marked his 10th anniversary as a continuous record breaker. Chaudhary, who is also associated with the Fit India movement, said his biggest motivation is to encourage young people to value fitness and stay active.
