Parties getting ready for decisive state polls as EC declares schedule

New Delhi: Polls to state assemblies of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana will take place a few weeks from now in November, the Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced.

The elections will begin on November 7 in Chhattisgarh and Mizoram with the former having two phases of which the second being on November 17.

The Election Commission decided to hold polls in Rajasthan and Telangana on November 23 and 30 respectively.

Polling in Madhya Pradesh will take place on November 17 and results of all states will come out on December 3. The Congress Working Committee (CWC) is meeting today to discuss poll strategy as the party is yet to announce candidates.

In Madhya Pradesh and Telangana, the grand old party has made many promises including freebies such as electricity, and free transport among others.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan announced a caste survey after Bihar released its survey last week. Meanwhile Priyanka Gandhi offered caste survey in Chhattisgarh if it is voted back to power.

As soon as the EC announced schedule for polls in Telangana, the state’s leading politician Asaduddhin Owaisi of AIMIM said his party will announce candidates soon.

Owaisi exuding confidence said that AIMIM is fully prepared for the polls, saying ‘ we have already announced three candidates in Rajasthan’.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said his party will fight with ‘ full strength’ in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The BJP national chief JP Nadda said that the party will all five states with overwhelming majority under the leadership of PM Modi.
