Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday pointed out to the BJP’s state working committee meeting that overconfidence hurt the party’s performance in the Lok Sabha polls.
Yogi Adityanath urged the BJP workers to monitor social media, adding that ‘Opposition parties and foreigners successfully used social media to conspire against’ the BJP, Scroll reported citing The Hindu.
The BJP leader asked his party workers to fight rumours and highlight party’s respect for scheduled caste leaders.
“The BJP workers must monitor social media, counter rumours immediately, and highlight the party’s respect for scheduled caste leaders,” he was quoted as saying.
Referring to the party’s strategy for previous polls in the state, he said the BJP kept “constant pressure” on the Opposition under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He is reported to have said that BJP had secured the same percentage of votes in 2024 polls as well, adding ‘However, the shifting of votes and overconfidence hurt our expectations. As a result, the Opposition, which was decimated in the previous elections, is able to do chest-thumping today.’
Adityanath claimed the party had done ‘good work’ and it did not have to “go on the backfoot”
Adityanath’s reactions follow results of by-election in 13 Assembly seats in seven states with Congress winning four and the BJP just two seats.
The Election Commission is yet to announce a date for the Assembly by-elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, BJP UP state chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary reportedly claimed that the party would win all 10 seats in the bye-polls.
By-polls will take place in nine Assembly seats in the state after MLAs representing them won the Lok Sabha polls, leaving their seats vacant.
Election commission will declare poll in the Sisamau constituency in the Kanpur Urban district as the sitting MLA was disqualified after being convicted in an arson case.
