Hyderabad: One person was killed and six were injured in Andhra Pradesh's Eluru district when Diwali firecracker as powerful as an improvised explosive device accidently exploded, NDTV reported.
A man carrying a shipment of special firecracker ‘onion bombs’ on a two-wheeler hit a pothole, causing the ‘bombs’ to fall off and explode.
Footage showed two men speeding on a scooter through a narrow street and was about to go past a group of men at a junction when the bike exploded.
In the impact of the explosion the entire area was covered in dark smoke with bits of papers flying around.
As the smoke cleared two men were seen emerging and running out to safety. The bike and body can be seen scattered in the distance.
Two men, holding their ears probably due to ringing from blast, were seen going to a nearby house for help.
The bike rider has been identified as Sudhakar. It is reported that a body was ‘literally blown apart’ in the impact of the blast.
two of the six injured, who were rushed to the district hospital, are in critical condition.
Filing a case, the police have started an investigation.
