Mumbai bidder snaps up Dawood Ibrahim's four ancestral Ratnagiri plots in SAFEMA auction

Mumbai: A Mumbai-based bidder won all four ancestral agricultural land parcels in Ratnagiri district linked to fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim during a Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA) auction on March 5—the first time they've all sold after years of failed attempts.

The properties in Mumbake village, Khed taluka—originally registered to Dawood's mother Amina Bi—were forfeited under the SAFEMA due to criminal ties, including the 1993 Mumbai blasts. The bidder must pay by early April 2026 for final confirmation.

The successful bids topped November 2025's failed auction (with 30% reserve price cuts): Survey No. 442 (Hissa 13-B) fetched over ₹10 lakh (reserve ₹9.41 lakh) amid two bidders; the other three—Survey Nos. 533 (reserve ₹15,440+), 453 (Hissa 13-B, reserve ₹8 lakh+), and 617 (Hissa 13-B)—went to the sole Mumbai bidder.

These plots had flopped repeatedly since the 1990s attachments: larger tracts 442 and 453 failed 2-3 times; smaller 533 saw low interest; 617 had erratic bids, including a cancelled ₹2.01 crore overbid by Delhi lawyer Ajay Srivastava in 2024 (reserve just ₹15,440).

Srivastava first came into the spotlight in 2001 when he successfully bid for two industrial units in Nagpada. However, he later became entangled in a long-running legal dispute with the heirs of Haseena Parkar and has yet to take physical possession of the properties, with the case still pending before the Bombay High Court.

He continued to take part in auctions, including acquiring Ibrahim’s ancestral bungalow in Mumbake village in 2020, where he subsequently established a trust. In 2024, he again drew attention after placing a Rs 2.01 crore bid for a small agricultural plot (Survey 617) with a reserve price of just Rs 15,440. The bid was later cancelled due to non-payment, prompting a fresh auction this month.
